The Role:To provide environmental support to major projects to ensure the delivery of environmental requirements of Environmental Legislation, our clients Construction Site Rules and other Company Procedures. Key Accountabilities: To ensure the production and issue of environmental documentation required before construction works is allowed to commence (e. g. Project Register of Environmental Aspects  PREA, Site Waste Management Plans, History documentation for clearance process). This includes reviewing contractor documentation.  To influence Project Managers, Project Assurance Managers and Construction Managers to understand the purpose, implementation and end point of the project or process and provide advice on environmental issues.  To influence the tender evaluation process to ensure that environmental requirements are included in contract documentation and to review contract documentation e. g. contractor Environmental Management System (EMS) as part of contractor evaluation assessment.  To implement the requirements of the Integrated Waste Strategy on major projects.  To undertake environmental audits of the major projects during construction phase in accordance with CMD internal audit programme and to communicate any lessons learnt.  To influence environmental best practice in construction management. This includes participating in the Review, Learn and Improve process for the department.  To undertake environmental inspections of major projects during construction phase on a regular basis and report any findings to the construction management on site.  To manage compliance with COMAH Regulations for major projects and report to AWE COMAH Compliance Manager on a regular basis. Job DescriptionTo produce a weekly report summarising site findings and submit to Environment Manager. To deliver tool box talks and presentations on environmental topics to increase awareness. To be the interface between Construction Management and the Business Areas Assurance team. To undertake Accident/Investigations following an environmental incident on a major project if required. To liaise with Construction Logistics to ensure that environmental requirements are included in Logistic Plans and to be responsible for monitoring compliance with the Code of Construction Practice. To act as the environmental focal point for major projects during construction phase. To ensure all the relevant environmental documentation is in place for project handover. To be the Waste Officer for all major projects to ensure Waste Management Plans are implemented during the construction phase and monitor compliance with relevant Waste Regulations. ResponsibilitiesTo operate within the company standards relating to Security, Quality, Environment, Safety and Health. Understand the environmental requirements of the Product Delivery Project and Company EMS, the Construction Site Rules and Code of Construction Practice. Carry out the requirements specified by the environmental manager. To take part in Change Control for major projects and to ensure environmental requirements are addressed. Highlight any areas of best practice and areas for improvement to CMD Environment Manager. Keep up to date with environmental legislation and assess applicability to projects. To exercise duty of care for self and others. Person Specification To safeguard Company information and assets in care from unauthorised access or disclosure, report security breaches and apply security at all times. Qualifications A degree in a relevant discipline and substantial work experience or  Appropriate professional status and substantial work experience of working in the field of environmental management. Knowledge Good knowledge of key pieces of UK environmental legislation and regulatory requirements  Good knowledge of BS. EN. ISO 14001Experience Useful experience might include any of the following: o Experience of working in the nuclear or other high hazard industry o Experience in waste management o Experience of environmental projects o Experience in the construction or industrial sector is preferableSkills Must have good communication and report writing skills.
