Also responsible for the development and implementation of Human Factors methodologies and the broadening of Human Factors awareness Key accountabilities Provide support to intelligent customer focus for Human Factors Integration (HFI) to Safety Case and Design Project personnel, including human factors support to contractors, by defining the companys HFI Relevant Good Practice through Company Safety Procedure and Project Delivery guidance documentation Production of human factors assessments and other technical inputs to the design process and to safety cases and safety documentation for a range of facilities including radioactive, explosives and chemical plant Support the technical management of consultancy resources across all Human Factors work areas, ensuring deliverables are to the required time, cost and technical standard Development and implementation of human factors handbook, and other corporate human factors guidance, and support the development and delivery of training material as required Provide guidance on Human Factors Integration process for all stages of the project lifecycle Responsibilities Operate within the company standards relating to Security, Quality, Environment, Safety and Health Interact at all levels with other departments across the Company Provide human factors advice and support to the design of new facilities as well as support to existing facilities (including those undergoing decommissioning) Interface with the following, as required: Operational Facility Managers and their staff Directors and senior managers Regulatory authorities Qualifications Degree (or equivalent) in a human sciences based subject is essential Registered Member of the Ergonomics Society (or eligible/working towards) Knowledge Good working knowledge of the production, review and approval process for safety documentation is essential Specialist knowledge of human factors assessment methods is essential Good working knowledge of Human Factors Integration into the design process is essential Working knowledge of risk assessment techniques is preferred Working knowledge of safety cases is preferred Knowledge of health and safety legislation in nuclear industry context is preferred Experience Relevant experience in the field of human factors assessment is essential Experience of applying human factors in nuclear and high hazard industries is desirable Skills Numerate and literate Good communication skills with staff at all levels Report writing skills Presentation skills (technical presentations and lecture/training skills) Good awareness of engineering, operability/maintainability, management inputs to projects to enable human factors work to be defined in a structured and applicable way Behaviours Proven self starter Capable of team and individual working Capable of voicing opinion Problem solving Customer focus Positively seeks out opportunities to develop technical and management skills Special Requirements Willing to access controlled areas All selected candidates will be required to undergo security clearance. Job/Role Purpose  To act as a source of Human Factors (HF) Subject Matter Expertise across the Client providing consultancy, technical support and advice to customer organisations in support of projects and tasks.  To conduct/lead HF Research as directed by in house Project Managers in support of research objectives for the company and other programmes.  To provide project management support on large HF research programmes.  To support in business development activities by managing or contributing to proposal documents/presentations to expand the companys application of HF with both existing customers or new prospects.  To work with Bid and Project Managers from across company Divisions to generate cost-effective and pragmatic solutions their HF issues.  To work individually and within a team environment of both HF specialists and/or other engineering disciplines to achieve programme results and customer deliverables in a timely and accurate manner. Qualifications &amp; skills The ideal candidate should have experience of Human Factors (HF) consultancy as an HF expert covering both individual tasks and as a member of a team.  You will have participated in research projects and be familiar with research disciplines and practices.  Will have lead HF projects destined for Military and Civil applications and be familiar with the HF practices, processes and standards employed.  Will be able to provide at least one example of where their HF contribution has lead to a significant impact or benefit to a project or equipment.  Should have provided HF input into a major training project in either the military or commercial sectors.  Have conducted Hierarchical Task Analysis and generated supporting documentation and reports.  Have experience of the HF Integration process and its formulation and application in the Defence or Commercial sectors.  Have experience of the formulation, implementation and maintenance of HCI design.  Be able to conduct Workload analysis from both theoretical planned use patterns and from practical field case studies.  Be familiar with the conduct and principals of Training Needs Analysis and the application of their results in equipment and Training Design.  Be able to find pragmatic solutions to HF issues recognising the necessity of establishing a balance between the laudable and the affordable.
