Please note that although work is based from Leicestershire or Lancashire this position involves significant periods of time on nuclear stations. Duties will include:  Leading a multi-disciplined project team  Safely control &amp; deliver projects to timescale, budget, quality and customer satisfaction  Supervisory role for staff and contractors and ensure safety measures are understood and implemented  Manage the development of a detailed programme including milestones. Preparation of project and cost breakdown structure  Write Project Definition Documents  Identify areas of high risk and opportunities and devise strategy to minimise risk and maximise advantages  Ensure Key Performance Indicators are met. Possessing a degree in Mechanical Engineering &amp; having either attained, or being close to achieving the Chartered Civil / Structural engineer status the successful candidate will possess Demonstrable project management experience within a bespoke engineering environment. Essential Experience:  Commercially aware with the ability to manage multiple projects  Project management within a heavy industry is essential i. e. petrochemical, oil/gas, process industry  Developing and implementing delivery strategies  Effective management of risk mitigation Desirable Experience:  Leadership experience i. e. small teams 1 - 6 engineers(for principal engineers)  Ability to technically guide and direct the engineering team  Experience of working to quality assurance systems certified to ISO9000/2000  Experience on a nuclear site  Experience of complex mechanical handling systems  DV / SC clearance a distinct advantage. The successful candidate will provide both civil &amp; structural engineering expertise in support of the companies engineering activities. You will be required to work in project-based design teams and as a consultant / engineering analyst from our offices situated in Leicestershire however the position is likely to involve travel to (and working from) various offices &amp; sites in the UK &amp; abroad. Duties will include:  Building and structural steelwork specification and design  Producing design substantiation documents  Liaison with civil contractors and consultants  Acting as site civil engineer during construction phases  Building condition surveys  Site supervision and quality control of civil contractors. Possessing a degree in Civil Engineering &amp; having either attained, or being close to achieving the Chartered Civil / Structural engineer status the successful candidate should be Familiar and have experience in the following areas:  Design experience of building &amp; industrial structures in concrete &amp; steelwork preferably on projects with a substantial mechanical, electrical, process or power related content with knowledge of cost estimating and design fees if possible.  Familiarity with UK codes of practice in reinforced concrete BS8110, structural steelwork BS5950 &amp; BS449, Masonry BS5628, Loadings for Buildings BS6399 and foundations BS8004. Some experience in geotechnical engineering and foundation design is also required. Familiarity with European / US codes would also be an advantage.  Experience of designing structures to resist earthquake and extreme wind loading would be advantageous but not essential. The successful engineer would be expected to develop design skills in these areas as appropriate to the projects in hand. The role will primarily be based at their offices in Central London. Job Overview The Site Development Engineer will work within the Environmental &amp; Site Development Team. The team will be responsible for the assessment of different potential sites, the definition of site(s) characteristics, the definition of site preparatory works, the relationship with the Environment Agency during the pre-assessment process, the preparation of the Environmental Impact Assessment Report(s) and finally the technical content of the applications for discharge authorisation and other necessary site permits. This team could have to work in close collaboration with teams in France &amp; the UK and with potential partners, including joint teams created with any such partners. The team must be able to specify, manage and accept detailed engineering reports produced by such partners and their contractors. Key Responsibilities: The Site Development Engineer will have to manage/contribute to:  Identification and scheduling of required site assessment studies  Specification of the scope of work for engineering studies required to characterise potential sites  Liaise with Procurement teams to secure suitable competent parties to perform required studies  Management/oversee of contractors involved in the execution of site studies and production of associated reports  Review of the adequacy of reports arising from site studies and assess the implications for the project  Overall assessment of the suitability of sites for nuclear development &amp; preparation of necessary documentation to underpin decision making and to comply with nuclear site licence conditions and wider regulatory or stakeholder expectations  Liaison with teams in France &amp; the UK + other partners regarding the technical engineering assessment of potential sites and development proposals  Development and implementation of site licensee organisational arrangements including requirements to demonstrate intelligent operator status in engineering aspects All the above activities are essential for securing the necessary information to underpin the timely application and granting of nuclear site licence(s) and planning and other consents. The Person Educated to graduate or post-graduate level with a strong intellect Having a engineering background, preferably within civil engineering A team player with the ability to develop relationships and to influence and to communicate effectively with internal and external contacts in the UK and overseas, especially France. Adaptable and flexible working style: with the ability to work on their own initiative; to manage the work within the team and with other teams. Having a good understanding of project management Adaptable in the context of an international project and readily able to assimilate organisational change A good understanding of the engineering aspects, regulatory framework and consenting process required to develop large projects in the UK Depending on level of experience, be prepared to accept a training secondment (of about 6 months) to a nuclear safety team based either in Lyon or Paris. In such circumstances some knowledge of French would be suitable. Other key consents required are the nuclear site licence and reactor type approval which are being separately managed by the Technical team. The role of the Consents Officer includes: ? Supporting the Head of Consents in the HQ team located in London and also the locally based Site Managers. ? Identifying &amp; obtaining consents &amp; authorisations required to enable development of a nuclear power station in accordance with the project programme ? Negotiating with land owners, regulatory bodies and licensing bodies ? Working with the Project Technical Team and their consultants to ensure consents are in place to support development activities.
